The Midcoast of Maine is where the mountains meet the sea. What can be more beautiful than being between mountains and ocean? This area offers miles of rocky coastline with endless ocean vistas, historic lighthouses, lobster boats galore, and many art galleries in the vibrant little downtowns. When not shooting, you will find plenty of things to do. I can’t possibly tell the story as good as my dear neighbors did in this Maine tourism video:

Our home base is in Rockland, which is the retail center of Mid-Coast Maine and it’s experiencing somewhat of a renaissance. Anchored by the first-class Farnsworth Art Museum, one of the finest regional art museums in the country, Rockland is filled with boutique shops, galleries, and a delightful array of gourmet restaurants and quaint coffee shops. It has been called the “Lobster Capital of the World”—both for its importance to the East Coast lobster industry and for the world famous Maine Lobster Festival.

windjammersRockland Harbor is home to more windjammers than any other port in the country. Over a dozen historic schooners sail these waters just as they did a century ago. The sight of a schooner as it sails on parade past the historic Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse is a vision to behold.

Outdoor Activitiessport icon

If you’re the active type, there is no end to the excellent hiking, biking, and kayaking in this area. Maine Sport Outfitters is a large sports goods store that would be happy to prepare you for an outdoor adventure, with all kinds of equipment including kayak rentals. There is also a bike shop right in Rockland (Side Country Sports) that rents bicycles. If golfing or fishing is more your speed, there are three amazing golf courses in this immediate area, all with ocean views and fishing opportunities galore.
